Cecily Cowburn Anderson

Cecily Cowburn Anderson grew up in a family of educators and artists who encouraged her to tell stories through her art. Even as a young artist she focused on physical spaces and the people who inhabit them as a lens for the complexities of life — emerging womanhood, the roles we take on in relationships.

After becoming a mother, painting felt indulgent, and the speed of photography let her use her body to make personal poetry. That work has since moved off the wall and into the material of the house itself — hand-tufted rugs, cast concrete, printed textile, and everyday intervention — using the softest domestic materials to say the things a house usually keeps quiet.

Cecily has been an art educator for two decades. Her work has been exhibited at Silvermine Arts Center. She lives in Connecticut.
